This is such a great article. I enjoyed it. I was telling my counselor, the other day, I feel like some of my thought process comes from a 5-year-old that endured trauma, that I immediately thought like a 5-year-old girl who had no choice, but to think like a 5-year-old girl in my situation. Get me? I've been using that same coping mechanism throughout my adulthood life because no one taught me any different. (Or to even think of the concept that, oh hey!, at 18...you should reevaluate your child's coping mechanism strategies because they can be useless in their adult life. Teach & replace them with age appropriate coping points.) I kept this to myself and my parents didn't really deal with this like I deserved, but they weren't bad either...my mom & daddy loved me. I believe, I've lived a good life, but I've had significant trauma about every 2-3 years until I got in my 30s...and truly 40s. We've gotta reexamine, reevaluate & readjust our coping mechanisms at least every 18 years. My 5 year old coping mechanisms dont really work for me at 46. It's all good!
