The No Nonsense Approach To Building Wealth

The problem with money is that our society often thinks of it all wrong. It is hard to learn the truth because we often learn from our parents and they learn from their parents, and the school system has no interest in helping us learn about money either. Everyone around us is selling us an idea about money that rich people simply don’t follow. Wealth is built on an entirely different set of rules than what society typically follows.

Get Rich Slow

I hate to break this to you, but this is not going to be an article about how you can get rich, marry someone hot and retire on a beach. Wealth building is a slow process. Warren Buffet started investing when he was seven years old; Bill Gates spent ten years in isolation working hard on Microsoft. We never hear about these stories though because no one cares about people until they are a massive success.

We live in a society of getting things on demand. The book can be sent to your Kindle right away, you can binge watch the entire season of a show, the internet is as fast as ever, we can microwave our food, and it all happens on demand. The problem with this way of living is that wealth is best built slowly over an extended period of time. Get this in your head now, if you do it quickly then so be it but you likely will not get rich fast at all.

Keep Your Overhead Low

My second mentor lived in a tiny house, and it was confusing to me. When I finally flew to Austin, Texas to meet him, I was excited to see the massive house and nice cars, and he had none of it.

He told me why would he spend all that money on a house when he can take that money and put it into other investments that will make him 10% per year. I noticed that many successful people thought this way. They always understood that they needed to spend their money at the right time, and the time was not now!

Are you keeping your overhead low? Wealth is not buying the biggest house and the fastest cars. Those people appear rich, but under the hood, they are often struggling to keep up with their bills. The truly wealthy people are hard to point out in a crowd because they are prudent investors.

Learn Real Estate

My third mentor was a real estate mogul, but weirdly he needed my help building an online presence. He had no internet presence at all and often seemed like he had never used the internet, to be honest. I told him I would help him out if he mentored me and he showed me a whole new world.

I though real estate investing was buying houses and either flipping them or renting them out. My mentor was doing neither. He was buying houses and turning them into group homes. Instead of renting houses out to a single-family he would make double or triple the money each month by renting out by the bed and having three beds per room. It was insane the money he was making doing this.

He showed me how once he built up this wealth, he started providing the actual financing for people to get homes. Now, this had my head spinning because was the bank.

I realized while I was learning that real estate has created the most millionaires in the USA. When I say, you need to learn real estate that is the reason why. It builds real wealth, and there are more ways to make money than many realize.

Throw Away The Basic Savings Account

Savings accounts are deemed to be these safe places but they make no sense when you do the math. We don’t invest anywhere else because we think it is a risk to do so when the reality is that the risk is in NOT investing elsewhere. These savings accounts come with a horrible interest rate that does not even keep up with inflation. They just do not make sense so please do not do it.

Wealthy people DO NOT hold their money in a savings account with hopes of the money growing. They all understand savings accounts are a failing strategy, and they do not make your money work for you.

Learn The Stock Market

There are two reasons you need to learn the stock market. The first being that markets on average increase 9%/10% per year, and the second are the fact that you learn a lot about business and numbers.

I meet people on a daily basis that are scared to invest and build wealth because they don’t understand numbers at all. The best thing you can do is take the time to learn. I started reading and learning from all the best investments books and courses that I could find.

I started to study these companies and pick my stocks that I thought would be a winner. It taught me to pay attention to details, move away from my emotion, and think with a long term mindset. All of these things are valuable skills to have!

Consumer to Collector

Which side of the fence are you on? Are you a consumer or are you a collector? The debtor will always be a slave to the lender! Choose your sides wisely. Look in any areas of life, and you will see a few collecting and the rest just consuming at rapid rates.

You will never build wealth until you shift from being a consumer to a collector. When you start a business, for example, it makes you shift over to a collector. People pay you for your service, and because you need the capital, you stop spending your money and you invest it back in your business.

What Are You Going to Do?

Are you just going to continue screaming YOLO and living your life like there is no tomorrow? The thing I hate the most about motivation is that it only matters if you decide to change your life and do something about it. Right now as you read this, go and find yourself a mentor, buy a book that can teach you about building wealth! Take action and change your life for the positive.

Like many entrepreneurs, I have always been a big believer in hard work. If you put in the work, you will see the results, and there is pretty much nothing else to it. Only as I have matured, I slowly began to understand that there is more to it. When you hear people say that to succeed in business you need luck, what they mean is that you need the right things to come together at the right time. You need the knowledge, experience and the timing to all come together for dreams to come alive.

Hard workers can blind themselves to the other factors that can play a huge role in whether you rise to the top of a company, the new business you start succeeds, or that partnership that you are working on ends up coming through. Hard work is an essential ingredient for sure but hard work without these three things can be a lost cause.

Why The Grind is Not Enough – 3 Things You Need For Success

1. Knowledge

How much do you know? When you read books, how much do you retain? You need to know a lot about a subject to be successful. If you want to rise to the top, you are going to have to prove that you know what the hell you are talking about.

Knowledge can come from:

School

Mentors

Online courses

Seminars

Books

It does not matter where the knowledge comes from, but you just know that you need to have it. Knowledge is what is going to give you the edge. To be able to have information that others just don’t have can give you a huge competitive advantage.

2. Experience

Experience is where knowledge becomes useful. Everyone knows someone who has read every book in the world, yet they apply none of what they learn.

Mike Tyson was quoted saying “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” The statement is so important when it comes to experience. You can read a book and watch movies on how to fight, but until you get punched and have to keep going, the knowledge will not sink in. If you are told to keep your hands up and in a fight you drop them, the pain will become your teacher.

You need to the right experiences in the right places to be a success. Life is full of journeys, destinations, jobs, and people who leave an impact on us in both negative and positive ways. These experiences add up, and they become the cement of our make up. We can’t change the past, but we can learn from it.

Here’s To The Entrepreneurs – Motivational Speech by Fearless Motivation – WATCH FREE:

3. Timing

Out of the three, timing is the most difficult to get correct because it is often out of our hands most of the time.

Timing requires things like:

Being in the right place at the right time.

Meeting the right person at the right time

Knowing the right combination of people

Entering a market at the right time

There is not a lot you can do to get timing right other than paying attention. Facebook started at the perfect time because MySpace had proven that people love social networks, but it was not a great product. Mark Zuckerberg went to a prestigious school and met his Co-Founder who had the cash to put $15,000+ into the business. Not many people have college buddies that can do that. The timing was impeccable and not something Mark was not able to control.

Pay attention. When economic tides are shifting that is a warning sign to take action. When the right people just keep coming into your life, or you keep getting warnings to move somewhere you need to be willing to get up and go.

How It All Comes Together

FIXT APP was an idea I have had since I was 19 and I just sat on it because that was the first time that I started realizing what I am talking about in this article. The situation had to be just right. I knew I was not smart enough, experienced enough and the world was not ready for it.

After graduating from college and moving to Oklahoma to continue training for track and field, the pieces started to come together. I met a young man who asked me to be his marketing mentor, and he has nor surpassed me, it only made sense to bring him on because he was a former student-athlete. He moved out to Phoenix, AZ where I moved next just because I asked him to so I knew he was all in.

I started working for a professional track and field company, and this brought in plenty of connections to top athletes, coaches, and therapists all around the world. I just kept meeting them on a daily basis, and this was when I started to realize that the timing was right.

My friend that I would talk to a lot about my idea, tragically passed away and it sent a shock through my world. I never actually had to think about how short life can be so I knew it was action time. When I thought about what he always told me to do, there was really no other choice.

Between the time of the idea to when I actually started FIXT, I had started four different businesses, read countless books and been mentored by numerous entrepreneurs. I joined Peter Voogd’s game changer network, and I just keep learning.

I got a sales job at a sports company that sold to my target market, and it just made more sense of what I was doing and what I needed to be doing. All of these things were not happening by chance. They were happening because the timing was right. The stars were all aligning.

I met the perfect programmer to be a co-founder. He used to be an athlete (which is rare for developers), and his mom is a Physical Therapists, which is our target market. He talked with her about the idea and she loved it and he was all in from that day forward.

I was grinding but the timing was also right. The right pieces just kept falling into place, and I was finally able to understand the power of waiting for the right time. Not everything in life needs to be rushed. The health care industry is in a place where it is finally ready to be disrupted by technology.

Lastly, the health care market was finally starting to welcome health tech with open arms. Health care almost always lags behind when it comes to tech. When I began to see a lot of health tech companies getting love in the press and society starting to understand that health care is way behind, it was just another sign that the timing was right.

What This Means For You

Are you increasing your knowledge every day?

Are you growing your relevant experiences every day?

Are you on the lookout for the right timing?

If the answer is no for any of these, then you need to come up with a plan of how you plan to start.

The Hard Truth About Entrepreneurship

Ever since the Facebook Movie came out, entrepreneurship has been the sexy thing to do. I have been working at this for years, and I have had my fair share of failures. Entrepreneurship is not sexy at all, succeeding at it will be the hardest thing you ever do in your life. Here is what a lot of people won’t tell you about starting a business: The hard truth about entrepreneurship.

You Need Leadership to Grow

I see too many people want to be entrepreneurs so they can be bosses that strive for power instead of being leaders. People who just want the ability to tell you what to do are not real leaders. Leadership is about growing other people so that they can surpass you.

When a company has respected leadership everyone knows the direction, they feel passionate about what they are doing because they feel like they are supporting something greater than just their paycheck.

As soon as a job becomes about the paycheck, you know right away that the leadership is missing from the company. As soon as you see people constantly bickering and feeling lost about what to do, there is a lack of leadership.

The worst part about a company with no leadership is that the leaders will not even admit that they are leading the company horribly, and this just further frustrates the team. Will they give up decision-making power, though? No, because then they won’t get to feel powerful.

If you want to be an entrepreneur, you have to learn how to grow people. That will always be one of your primary jobs. Motivating people and making them feel like they can move mountains for your team because you believe in them so much.

It’s Not About Popularity. It’s About Making Money

In the ages of social media, it is sexier to announce you are running a business instead of grinding and running the business. Announcing what you are doing these days is cooler than actually doing it.

I will be the first to admit the only reason I know this is simply because of embarrassment. I have my share of failures that I announced and felt proud when I did.

When I started creating my current company, I never said one word about it on social media on my personal accounts. There was no point in my eyes. I had failed so much why bother announce it? Announcements can provide a sense of false success. If people were going to know about my business it was not going to come from friends; it was going to come from people that I don’t know.

Here’s To The Entrepreneurs – Motivational Speech by Fearless Motivation – WATCH FREE:

It’s Not All Fun Games

There is nothing sexy about being an entrepreneur but people make it seem cool. Look at it like this.

Instead of being able to clock in and clock out at a job you now have no set hours.

Instead of being able to blame your boss for everything you become the one blamed.

You are responsible for making sure there is money to pay employees.

You are responsible for making sure your employee’s kids can eat.

When the company is lost, everyone will look to you.

Not only do you have to worry about your personal bills but you also have to pay your business bills and salaries.

If things don’t go well, you can’t just quit and find another job because you become emotionally attached to the success of the company.

There is nothing sexy about any of this. If you grind and you become of the few that makes it you will be lucky enough to see a reward but only after years of toil and pain.

Don’t be an entrepreneur because you think it will be all fun meetings at fancy clubs and restaurants with influential people. What they don’t show in the movies is all the work they put in for years behind the scenes.

Most Will NOT Believe in Anything You Say

I have been an idealist my whole life. When I first started talking to investors about Fixt, I make no joke when I say that they thought/think it was/is the stupidest idea ever. It forced me double-check my sanity on multiple occasions.

How could I think I was on to something so great while the rich people with money don’t believe in me at all? It made no sense to me!

You will never make it until you get to the point where you can say loud and proud “I don’t care what you think.” When you can wake up every day with that message for people who do not believe in you and your team, you have the determination required to be successful.

If you wait for others to believe in you, they won’t. What they will do is hop on the bandwagon when they perceive that you are now a huge success.

Building An Excellent Team Is Hard

It is so hard to attract people to your team that are on the level you need them to be at. Early on in a company, it is not just about hiring smart people; you need insanely hard workers also. Most people look to their friends at first, and this is usually an awful idea. Friends might be the most comfortable to work with but are not always the best.

Building an excellent team means that as an entrepreneur that you need to be excellent at sales. You need to convince people that probably are working other jobs to either quit or spend their evenings and weekends building a dream with you. That is not an easy sell, but it is required if you want to succeed.

Is This The Life For You?

No matter how you look at it, being an entrepreneur is hard but is also is worth it. To create and know that you control your destiny is powerful. The idea that is just getting a degree will make you successful is now dead. You need to train yourself to go towards the difficult things that you don’t want to do because on the other side of painful is who you were meant to be.
