As you were growing up, you were empowered to pursue any career you dreamed. As time went by, that freedom was replaced with a choice. The choice was to either live the life you chose or let life decide for you. Unfortunately, too many of us settled for the latter and allowed life to dictate the path without our input. After years of life on auto-pilot, some are fortunate to have encountered a life event that forced them to re-evaluate their situation and change course. If you have not been forced to reassess your situation, I hope I can be that influence.

Choose The Life You Want Now – And Stop Drifting

“Your life matters. You are here for a reason. Your job is to determine why.” – Michael Hyatt – Choose the life you want

I was on a similar trajectory before I was introduced to the book “Living Forward: A Proven Plan to Stop Drifting and Get the Life You Want” by Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy. I had a successful career in my 20’s (made money and received recognition). In November 2015, I received a tremendous award. On stage receiving the award, a surprisingly scary question came to mind. “Is this it?” I had worked hard for three years on this award and it felt hollow at the finish line. At that point, I knew I was called to do more with my life and began looking for my calling. I stumbled across “Living Forward” by random happenstance in the free library on Amazon Prime. The title caught my eye and I began my life plan journey.

“If you aren’t paying attention, life can sneak past you.” – Choose the life you want

I had never heard of life planning before, but the term made sense to me intuitively. The first exercise in the book is to write your own eulogy. Talk about a morbid thought! The exercise forces you to embrace your mortality and create the legacy you want to leave behind. The sooner you accept your fate, the sooner you can work towards the impact you want to have on your loved ones and the world around you.

As I continued through the exercises during my “Life Plan Day”, it became very clear that my calling was to work with people and help them become the best version of themselves. A few months after I began implementing habits and actions from my life plan into everyday life, I launched my own life plan coaching service, Bales Dynamic Coaching.

We can make a living, or we can design a life. Jim rohn quote quotes motivation motivational Choose The Life You Want Now - And Stop Drifting

Life planning has completely transformed my life. I have written my own eulogy, prioritized my life accounts, established yearly/lifetime/financials goals, created my ideal weekly schedule and implemented empowering habits into my daily routine. Life planning has given me an end goal to work towards with actions I can take today to get there.

Our lives are too short and precious to let them waste away without finding our purpose. Life can also be really boring if we aren’t pursuing our passions. I truly hope you find the inspiration (life planning or other methods) you need to take action towards your purpose as soon as possible. Life is ready for your input!
