1. You Don’t Know Your Dreams
If you don’t know where you’re going, how could you expect to find your ideal destination? Clarity is power. Having a vague picture of your dreams in your mind isn’t enough. To follow your heart, first you must listen to it.
So how to have a crystal clear vision? Take out a sheet of paper. For a moment, just think about your special talents and your dreams in your mind’s eye. Then write down the specific career path you’ll have to chase to realize those dreams.
For example, if your special talent is bodybuilding and you want to become a bodybuilding champion, write down the key steps you will take to reach that end goal. The key steps may include choosing the right trainer, winning some state-level competitions, and then preparing for the national-level championship.

2. You Think Dreams Don’t Pay Bills
Some don’t follow their dreams because they think doing so will not pay their bills and probably make them worse off than settling for average. This is the mentality of the majority, also the mentality of the unfulfilled. If you are determined enough, your dream will pay you enough money to not only survive but enjoy life to the fullest. Follow your heart and life will surprise you.

3. You Choose Comfort Over Risk
This happens with most people. They don’t want to leave a job they don’t like because it provides them with a sense of security. Because if they quit that job, they’ll have to start from scratch again, build new skills, and prove their worth against the competition. And the problem is that they don’t want to work hard and leave their comfort zone.
But what they don’t realize is that the comfort zone brings regret and disappointment. Imagine the possibility that you could become Christopher Nolan and influence millions of people through your creative work. How would it feel to have that dream die with you, never realizing your true potential?
You’d blame yourself for not taking the risk because then you’ll realize how dangerous your comfort zone actually was. To do great things in life, you need to take risks. You need to trust our gut and follow your heart even when logic says otherwise.
As Steven Spielberg once said in his Harvard commencement speech,
“Listen to that voice that tells you what you CAN do; nothing will define your character more than that.”
4. You Give Into Your Fears
Everyone has fears and insecurities. But what separates the winners from the losers is how they respond to their fears. Winners feel the fear but take action anyway. Losers feel the fear and give up because their imagination says that everything will go wrong.
You have to know how to overcome your fears. The right way to kill fear is to take action, even if in small steps. Understand that if you move towards your fears, they will lose their power and you will gain strength. And if you move away from them, they will gain power and you will lose your confidence.
For example, if you’re a software engineer, but your dream is to become a musician, the first step is to take some classes and contact low-budget restaurants and bars for job opportunities.
Always remember, action is the antidote to fear.
