Is procrastinating killing your chances of success?

If you answered yes, and you get frustrated with how much you procrastinate, don’t beat yourself up. Procrastination has been around much longer than you probably realize.

According to a Psychological Science article, procrastination isn’t something new and we can’t blame the internet either. Procrastination in one form or another has been mentioned in writing many times over the last few thousand years!

Side Effects of Procrastination

It’s human nature to procrastinate in some way or another. But when does it all start?

A 2007 study with college students found that 80 to 95% of them procrastinate on a regular basis.

In this study, “Researchers found that at the beginning of the semester, students who were procrastinators reported less illness and lower stress levels than non-procrastinators. This changed dramatically by the end of the term when procrastinators reported higher levels of stress and illness.”

Needless to say, you probably don’t need a scientific study to know that procrastination isn’t helping you achieve your goals in life. One of the best ways to fight procrastination is to break up big tasks into small, bite-sized chunks.

Once you’ve made tasks smaller, use the Pomodoro technique to help you get things done.

How to Use the Pomodoro Technique

So what is the Pomodoro technique?

It’s a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980’s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, usually 25 minutes in length, followed by a short break.

The best part about this technique is that it’s simple and easy to do. All you need is a physical timer that you can buy on Amazon to get started.

While you can use your phone, I’ve found this leads to checking social media or email. A physical timer eliminates the chance of losing willpower and getting addicted to your phone.

According to their website, “The creator and his proponents encourage a low-tech approach, using a mechanical timer, paper, and pencil. The physical act of winding the timer confirms the user’s determination to start the task; ticking externalizes desire to complete the task; ringing announces a break. Flow and focus become associated with these physical stimuli.”

To get started, buy a timer, turn your phone on airplane mode and get to work on the stuff that will move your business and life forward.

Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Select a Task

Choose a task you’d like to get done. This could be big or small.

It could even be something you’ve procrastinated with but know that you need to get done. Choose something that needs 100% of your attention.

Step 2: Set the Timer for 25 Minutes

Make a promise to yourself that you will spend the next 25 minutes on a task and not interrupt yourself. No phone, notifications or email.

Focus on staying present and engaged in your task at hand.

Step 3: Immerse Yourself

Immerse yourself in the task for the next 25-minutes with all notifications, texts, and emails out of sight. If you think of something you need to do unrelated to your tasks, write it down on a separate piece of paper.

Step 4: Take a Short Break

Once you’ve completed 25-minutes of deep work, take a break for about five minutes. Go on a walk, stretch, check your notifications, etc.

Step 5: Rinse and Repeat

Once your break is over, get back to the next important task. Every four Pomodoro’s, take a longer break of 20-30 minutes or more.

I’m confident if you use Pomodoro technique, you will end procrastination once and for all. This method is simple, easy, and know that it will help you do more so you achieve more in your life and business.

Do you ever find yourself at the end of the day feeling like you worked all day, but didn’t actually get much done?

If so, you’re not alone. In today’s world, it’s never been harder to stay focused on a single task at work or at home.

Whether it’s social media, text messages or email, distraction seems to be just a button press away at all times. But, with some focus and effort, you can take back control of your life and regain a laser-like focus toward your goals and dreams.

5 Steps to Get Your Focus Back NOW

1. Plan the Night Before

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” It’s so true when it comes to staying focused in this distraction filled world.

Here’s what I suggest you do each night to set yourself up for a productive morning.. Before you go to sleep, make some basic decisions about what you will do tomorrow. Think about what you will wear, what your meals will be, and if you have anything to do after work.

Just these simple planning tips will help you wake up on time, have your outfit ready, and have a plan for your day. It will also help you plan your meals and when you have time to workout.

You might be thinking, does it really matter if I choose what I’m going to wear? Yes, yes it does. Look at Jeff Bezos or Mark Zuckerberg and you see they’re almost always wearing the same thing.. This is a conscious choice by them, they know your decision making muscles get weaker as the day goes on, don’t waste your decision power on something so trivial as, what you will wear that day.

2. Do the Hard Stuff First

If you’re like most people, you probably procrastinate the big stuff or “hard stuff” until later in the day. Only to not get it done and push it back again and again.

Like Brian Tracy said, “If you have to eat a frog, eat it first thing in the morning.” Get after the hardest job immediately while you are still fresh and have the most mental energy.

Research has shown that our minds are sharpest in the morning and that is the best time to tackle the tough jobs. This will also help you build momentum and confidence for the rest of your day.

Save the smaller, easier, and less intensive tasks (i.e. clearing your inbox) for later in the day.

3. Remove Distractions

If you want to stay focused, it’s time to break your phone addiction. Airplane mode is great even when you’re not 30,000 feet in the air.

When you have important things to do, turn off your phone or put it in airplane mode. Then, put it out of sight so you’re not as likely to check it for a message or notification.

You won’t have to get your focus back without being distracted in the first place.

4. Take Breaks

Studies have shown the brain gets tired and lazy after only about 20-25 minutes of work. This is why the “Pomodoro technique is so effective.” Instead of trying to “power through” a task, work in focused blocks of time.

Work for 25 minutes then take 5 minutes off to check emails, grab some water or go on a walk. It’s so important to take a quick break when working on something if you feel your energy fading. You will come back to your task with renewed vigor and a sharper mental focus.

5. Keep Your Goals In Front Of You

Remember why you’re doing what you’re doing. If you’re having trouble staying focused, put a visual reminder in front of you.

This could be a vision board on your phone, a screensaver on your computer or a picture of your family.

Use these five tips to get your focus back and take control of your future. Don’t let distractions hold you back from greatness.

I’m not talking about smoking, overeating or drinking too much alcohol, but I am talking about something equally addictive, and possibly just as harmful.

I’m talking about your smartphone addiction.

Did you know that the average person checks her phone 110 times a day? That’s crazy!

Here are some more statistics that might surprise you about cell phone addiction:

Three-quarters of people check their phone first thing when they wake up.

1 in 3 smartphone users wakes in the night to check their phones (it’s 50 percent for people 18-24).

Researchers found high mobile phone use was associated with stress and sleep disturbances for women.

The same study found that high mobile phone use was associated with sleep disturbances and symptoms of depression in men.

Long periods of cell phone use cause you to arch your neck and hold your body in a strange posture. This can lead to chronic back pain.

Look, I’m not suggesting that cellphones are bad and that you should give them up. It’s not realistic and they’re very beneficial in a lot of cases.

I carry mine daily but I am saying to become aware of how often you’re using it and how it might be harming parts of your life.

Why?

Recent studies have linked social networking to depression and anxiety. Since 2010, around the time when most people got smartphones, searches on Google for depression and anxiety rose incrementally. Here’s how to tell if you have a problem and how you can solve it.

5 Phone Addiction Warning Signs

It wasn’t until I became an entrepreneur in 2017 that I realized just how much I was on my phone. When I went from a 9-5 to earning every dollar on my own, I realized what a time suck it is.

Here’s how you know you might have a problem with your phone:

You check your phone in the middle of the night. Seriously, what app will help you sleep better (other than a meditation app)?

You text-walk. This happens to a lot of us but if you’re running into people and missing out on life because you’re looking down, you might have a problem.

You can’t help but use your phone when face to face with others. Do you fear real-world conversations and instead choose to watch a video or scroll through social media?

Your phone is your constant bathroom companion. Do you really need it in there all the time?

You get anxious when you forget your phone. Think back to the last time you left your phone somewhere. Even if you knew where you left it and you’re still anxious, this might mean a dependency problem.

First off, who’s in charge, you or your phone? You of course! The reason you’re checking your phone so much is that you’re in the habit of checking your phone.

Any habit, whether good or bad, is hard to break as your brain sees habits as a way of survival. Obviously, checking your phone 100X a day or smoking a pack of cigarettes isn’t a good habit but your brain doesn’t realize that.

It’s up to you acknowledge you are in control first off. Then, use the other steps below to change your habits.

2. Get Rid of Apps | Phone Addiction

How many apps on your phone are actually helping you become more successful in life? Most likely, apps are just sucking time away from working towards your goals and dreams.

One app that might be worth downloading is one that tracks your usage. This way you can figure out which apps are taking up the most of your precious time.

For example, Instagram now lets you know how much time you spend on the app within your setting. Sometimes, I look back and am appalled I spend so much time on there mindlessly scrolling.

If you’re using social media too much, make sure you’re following motivational pages or limiting your time to certain parts of the day.

3. Turn Off Notifications

Notifications are one of the biggest distractions that are killing your productivity. Whether its email, Facebook, or something else, notifications can make it nearly impossible to stay focused.

Because one notification can lead you to email, social media or texting. Turn off all notifications and I can almost guarantee your phone time will go down a ton.

And your productivity will skyrocket!

4. Take Short Phone Free Vacations

Remember, right now you’re in the habit of checking your phone frequently. But with a few tweaks, you can learn to live without it.

Start by taking a mini phone vacation by putting it in a drawer for an evening or 3-4 hour chunk of time. Tell people that you regularly communicate with that you’re taking a phone break and I’m sure they will understand.

Learn to live without it for a few hours and you will find time for other things you love doing. And not find yourself as dependent on your device.

5. Pay Attention | Phone Addiction

Not only is your phone robbing you from other things in life, sometimes its extremely dangerous. People die every year from taking selfies, looking down on their phone at crosswalks and texting and driving.

Don’t let your phone ruin your life. Be mindful of when you are using it and make sure you’re not endangering yourself or your others!

6. Don’t Take It To Dinner

Unless you’re a food blogger who needs to take pictures of your meal for work, leave it in the car or at home. It’s amazing how much more present you will feel and how you can focus on a real conversation.

If you must take it to the meal, make sure to leave it in your pocket or purse. Even having it on the table is a subconscious reminder that it’s there and will make it easy to check for notification.

7. Set a Digital Detox Alarm

Each night, at 9 pm I have an alarm on my phone go off. At that point, I switch to airplane mode or leave it in another room until 8am the next morning.

Friends and family have learned that I’m basically unavailable during those times. If you can’t do this, make sure to at least take an hour off at night and in the morning to give your eyes and brain a rest.

Final Thoughts on Your Phone Addiction

Hopefully, these tips can help you live a much better life with less phone time involved. Remember, you run the device, it doesn’t run you.

If you’re finding yourself struggling, don’t’ beat yourself up. You’re not alone.

The people who create them intentionally make them addicting so you stay on them longer. Start using some of these strategies and I promise you can beat phone addiction and will love your new life.

Let’s face it, we all get mad when people in our lives make stupid mistakes. Whether it’s at home, the office or even complete strangers.

We all mistakes.. However it’s often much easier to point out the mistakes of others, than mistakes of our own doing.

What’s worse is when ‘smart people’ make stupid mistakes. If you’re in the ‘smart’ category it can be super embarrassing when you make stupid mistakes in public.

Recently, I was reading an article on The Knowledge Project, about why people actually make these dumb mistakes in life..

Why Smart People Make Stupid Mistakes

According to the research, people, make mistakes primarily because of these 7 reasons:

Stress

Rushing or urgency

Too much information

Concerned with fitting in

Fixed on a specific outcome

Being outside the comfort zone

Being in the presence of an “authority”

Learning how to minimize each of them, will have you performing at a much higher level.

1. Stress

We’ve all been there. If you’re stressed it’s easy to make mistakes.

To help reduce these mistakes spend some time meditating, creating a set of morning rituals so that you can plan your day more effectively and do some deep breathing exercises.

Less stress will help you make fewer dumb mistakes but it’ll also help you live longer as cortisol is released when you’re stressed.

Remember, less stress equals a longer life!

2. Rushing

Think back to the last time you went rushing out the door trying to make it to work on time. It’s really easy to leave your notes for your work presentation, or forget to bring your lunch.

Minimize rushing by making sure you’re getting up earlier, creating a schedule, and maximizing the time you get each morning. Rush less to do more.

3. Too Much Information

We’re bombarded with information everywhere we go.

There’s never been more information on every single subject, ever.

But sometimes, too much information makes life harder rather than easier.

Instead of looking for another book or another how-to guide, filter out the information coming in and focus on your most important task each day, smash that out and the rest of the day is downhill.

4. Concerned With Fitting In

Most people want to fit in and be accepted by others too much.

Instead, be bold enough to be yourself, not only will you attract the right people into your life you’ll be much happier.

5. Fixed on a Specific Outcome

Sometimes we want very specific results. And when something else happens we get flustered and make stupid mistakes.

Don’t be so concerned with the outcome and instead, focus on getting it right. Even if the outcome isn’t as originally desired.

6. Being Outside Your Comfort Zone

Almost always you have to leave your comfort zone for growth.

But if you find yourself doing it too frequently and not being confident with your skills, mistakes are bound to happen.

While you shouldn’t avoid the comfort zone, make sure you are prepared for every eventuality, each time you do do something outside you zone.

7. Being in the Presence of an “Authority”

The easiest example is having a cop car following you on the road. It’s natural for people to make stupid mistakes that they wouldn’t normally make.

Quit letting “authority figures” bother you. Take a deep breath, relax and I’m confident you’ll avoid making a stupid mistake that could cost you. Remind yourself of everything you’ve overcome so far to even get to this point. This is nothing.

Remember, making mistakes is part of life. Don’t beat yourself up, if you find yourself making the occasional mistake. It’s a human trait that every single person possesses.

But if you find yourself making them a habit, try to identify if one of these seven causes is the reason. Then work on eliminating it from your life for more consistency.

What If The Results Don’t Come? Watch & Grow

Are you starting to feel like you’re in the wrong relationship? Is your relationship is making you better or are you simply going through the motions?

A close relationship with the right person is vital to your health, happiness, and fulfillment. Your relationship can make or break how you interact and engage with the world on a daily basis.

Yet so many people stay in the wrong relationship because they are too afraid of leaving. So many people aren’t happy but too scared to try and find anything else.

If you think you’re in the wrong relationship here are five surefire ways to tell.

1. You Don’t Spend Time Together (and don’t try too)

Life gets busy. Work, family, friends, events and everything else take up a ton of time. But if you’re not scheduling time with your partner then you’re probably going to fail.

If you aren’t spending time with your other half and aren’t concerned about it, what’s the point of keeping it going? Your partner is someone to share life with, not just a roommate.

2. You Don’t Trust Each Other

Trust is hard to get and easy to give away. If you aren’t trusting your partner it’s a huge red flag. Not only will this lack of trust lead to other issues, but it will also make the entire relationship problematic.

If you can’t communicate openly about trust issues its a sign that you’re probably in the wrong relationship.

3. Your Goals Don’t Align

I’m sure you first met you talked about your future and goals as individuals. As you dated longer or maybe even moved in, I’m sure you talked about your future goals of careers, travel, marriage or kids.

But if you and your partner no longer share your dreams it might be a sign that you’re in the wrong relationship. If one person wants to travel the world while the other wants a stable family life and 9-5 careers, the relationship is going to have problems.

Make sure you constantly check in and have goals that align together.

4. You’ve Stopped Making Effort

As Tony Robbins once said, “If you always do the little things that you did in the beginning, there will never be an end.” And he’s 100% right.

If you’ve stopped making effort to do the little things as time has gone on, you’re probably in the wrong relationship. You should want to do the little quirky, fun things you did in the beginning.

Sure, it might evolve in some capacity but its so important to always make the effort. If you’ve stopped trying and don’t care then it’s probably time to move on.

5. You Fantasize About Being With Other People

Yes, emotional cheating is still cheating. If you find yourself envisioning a better life, even if it’s with a fake romantic partner, it’s a sign that you are not fulfilled by your current relationship.

You should be able to speak with your partner about problems you’re having. Life’s short. Don’t spend time in the wrong relationship that isn’t fulfilling. It’s selfish to both you and your partner.

Communicate your thoughts open and honestly to give yourself the best chances to succeed. If it doesn’t work, at least you got everything out and won’t hold any regret in the future.

The world is filled with people who want to be successful and there are a million articles telling what you should start doing to achieve success.

While some of these are great, often times it’s what you need to stop doing that’s more important.

You Have To Give Up These 7 Things To Skyrocket Your Success

1. Give Up On Always Striving For Perfection

Perfection is the lowest standard, because perfect doesn’t exist.. in any area of life.

There is no perfect time to start a business, quit your job or take the trip of a lifetime.

You have to give up on perfection and start taking action now. Don’t let the fear of failure hold you back from success.

2. Give Up Hoping It Will Happen

If you want to achieve success in any area, you need to create a plan for it. You can’t just hope it will happen. You are the creator of your life and that means daily, weekly, and monthly plans.

When you are setting goals, make them mean something.. As Jack Canfield said, “Vague goals create vague results.” You have give up hope and replace it with belief.

Most people set short generalised goals like “lose 10 pounds” or “earn $100,000” but instead of thinking long-term. Think about exactly what you want to achieve, like losing 10 pounds and keeping 10 pounds off because you want to have more energy and get more out of each day. Think about how earning $100,000 would affect your life, your family and enable you to help others.

Once you’ve narrowed your goals. Write them down. Believe 100% you will achieve them. Repeat, every single day.

3. Give Up Playing Small

As Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “What’s the point of being on this Earth to coast through life and be like everyone else.” You need to give up playing small and start thinking big.

Big goals, big dreams, and stratospheric ambition that seems like insanity to most people. Sure, people will doubt and belittle your dreams, but who cares.

If you don’t take calculated risks on yourself, your dreams will die with you. They’ll never go from thought to reality. And the world won’t benefit either.

Get over trying to impress everyone and commit to achieving massive success.

4. Give Up Your Excuses

The number one habit in the bestseller, The Success Principles, is to take 100% accountability for your life. Every single aspect of it. You have to give up excuses if you want to find success.

Start holding yourself accountable for everything that happening in your life – good or bad. This might sting but it’s necessary to win big.

5. Give Up On The Unhealthy Lifestyle

What’s the point of working hard if you don’t have your health to enjoy it all? The fast-food diet might be more convenient but it’s going to catch up with you sooner or later.

Focus on your health, like you do your career or business. Not only will you look better, feel better and have more energy, you’ll have more mental cognition to achieve more as well.

6. Give Up Believing In Overnight Success

Overnight success doesn’t exist, it’s a myth. Overnight success comes from years, if not decades, of hard work and the relentless pursuit of a dream.

Successful people know this and don’t get distracted by shiny objects. They stay committed to their goals and ignore the “get rich quick schemes.” Strive for constant and neverending improvement to reach your goal, not winning the lottery.

7. Give Up on Negative and Toxic People

It’s not secret that your inner circle greatly affects your outer world. If you want success you have to be willing to give up the negative, toxic people that are dragging you down with them.

This can be very hard as some of the people you’ve known for a long-time. But don’t let a long friendship limit your long term potential. Look around and take note of those helping your success and those hindering your progress.

Remember, success doesn’t mean always adding something to your life. It means having the self-discipline to know there’s some things you have to give up.

Build successful habits, and surround yourself with winners. Give up these seven things and success will surely follow!!

Are you lacking motivation in your life? Struggling with laziness and a lack of purpose? Do you keep putting off your dreams until tomorrow or the next day?

If so, you’re not alone. So many people worldwide suffer from a lack of motivation and enthusiasm.

Motivation rarely lasts but is necessary to help you get started on your goals. It helps build the momentum to get you to take massive action toward your goals and dreams.

But why does motivation come and go from so many peoples lives in the first place?

5 Reasons You’re Not Motivated and Lack Enthusiasm

I think there are five main reasons people lose motivation and enthusiasm toward their goals.

1. Fear of Failure

Fear of failure is a hard thing for most people to overcome. It robs so many people of ever seeing a goal or project through the finish line.

The sooner you realize that failure is part of the process, the sooner you can start taking action!

2. The Habit of Laziness

Another reason people don’t continue to take action is pure laziness. Having the wrong habits is a top reason that so many people quit too soon.

3. The Habit of Procrastination

Like laziness, procrastination is a habit. The sooner you can fix your little habits, the sooner you will have more motivation on a regular basis.

4. Fear of Judgement From Others

Similar to fear of failure, people don’t want to feel judged by others. But it ’s a bad reason to not go after your hope and dreams.

If you want something great in life, prepare to be judged and learn to quit caring about the opinion of others. All that matters is how you feel about yourself.

5. Lack of Belief

If you don’t believe, if you don’t see it happening, then it probably never will. Self-belief is so important in turning your dreams into reality.

So how do you overcome these five things holding you back?

5 Ways to Get Motivated

1. Create Winning Habits

Remember, how you do anything is how you do everything. If you say you’re going to wake up at 5 am each day but hit snooze until 6 am you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Create winning habits by keeping the promises you make to yourself. Turn off the TV at night, exercise each morning, declutter your house.

All these little things will help you build the habits of success.

2. Change Your Mindset

Achieving greatness is impossible with a loser mindset. If you think your abilities are fixed, you’ll never be able to push past the lazy days. You need to acquire a growth mindset by reading, watching inspirational content, and

3. Start a Morning Routine

You need to make time for your goals. They won’t come to life if you don’t review them on a regular basis. As Ed Mylett said, “Your obsessions become your possessions.”

Spend time each morning obsessing over what you are trying to achieve. This will program your mind to stay focused on the goal and help push through fear and doubt on the bad days.

4. Work on Yourself

To stay motivated, you need to dig deep within yourself and find out what you’re truly made of. Success isn’t going to happen unless you love yourself and know your own strengths and weaknesses.

Get quiet with meditation or journaling to learn about yourself. The more you can use your strengths, the more motivated you’ll stay in life.

5. Take Massive Action

Imperfect action is better than sitting around planning. Go out and fail your way to success. Take massive action, even if it feels awkward or uncomfortable, to start building momentum toward your dreams.

Hopefully, you can learn from these tips and get started today. Quit waiting until tomorrow to turn your dreams into reality.

Are you struggling to answer life’s toughest questions and don’t know how to find the answers? Maybe you’re mulling over a career change, starting a business or even a relationship.

Instead of sitting around actively thinking about the problem I have a few recommendations to help you solve the problem. Quit banging your head against the wall hoping the answers will find you. Instead, use these tips to start finding the answers you’ve been looking for.

How to Answer Life’s Toughest Questions

1. Ask Your Subconscious Before Bed | Life’s Toughest Questions

Studies have shown that your subconscious is very active at two times during the day — morning and night. While you drift off to sleep your subconscious is wide awake. Otherwise, blood wouldn’t make its way to your heart while you were sleeping.

This is why it’s so important to go to bed with the right intention.

The Power of the Subconscious Mind

As Thomas Edison said, “Never go to sleep without a request to your subconscious mind.”

The reason he recommends this is because while you sleep, your mind is working like normal. If you give it a question before bed it can help you find ways to help you answer it.

Think back to the last time you went to bed with a question (not a worry) and woke up in the middle of the night with an answer. Or right when you woke up and were in the shower or meditating?

This is much better than going to bed worrying. The subconscious doesn’t understand the difference between a worry and a question. It is unbiased and doesn’t understand negative request different.

So if you go to bed thinking “I don’t want to fail at my interview or “I have to pay this credit card bill soon” it will help make those solutions a reality.

Instead, ask a question to answer life’s toughest questions.

2. Take Nap or Meditate | Life’s Toughest Questions

Naps are great because you can’t always afford to wait until tomorrow to solve a problem. Similar to going to bed, use naps or meditation as a way to silence your conscious mind and help find answers to your toughest questions.

When Thomas Edison was puzzled by a problem, he would lie down and take a nap and allow his subconscious mind to work on it. Try to keep naps under 20 minutes to stay productive and not get into too deep of sleep.

3. Write In a Journal Each Morning | Life’s Toughest Questions

Journaling is a habit that has been used by some of the smartest and most intelligent people for centuries. Writing in a journal first thing in the morning is a great way to brain dump and start each day fresh. Again, while you were sleeping your brain was working.

Get out all of your ideas, thoughts, and feelings onto paper. Clear room in your head for more space each day. The effects can be profound in helping you think clearly

Ask yourself, were Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein geniuses because of their intelligence and wrote in a journal? Or did writing in a journal make them some of the most intelligent people ever?

4. Stop Thinking About The Problem | Life’s Toughest Questions

Sometimes you need to stop thinking about the problem. Mel Robbins refers to this as “productive procrastination.”

As she said in her best selling book, The 5-Second Rule, “The next time you’re struggling, don’t keep trying when you’re tired and burnt out. Step away from the problem.”

Get into nature, meditate, think about anything but the answer. Change your environment so your mind can get to work. This is why you get great ideas when you aren’t staring at your screen.

While some of this may seem off the wall, I promise they can help you succeed faster. Use one or several of these tips to finally learn how to answer life’s toughest questions!

Warren Buffett is arguably the greatest investor of all-time. He’s created so much wealth it’s almost hard to comprehend.

Outside of his unbelievable track record of investing. he’s also a machine when it comes to his daily routine. He reads for five hours every day, hits the drive-thru at McDonald’s every morning, and drinks Coca-Cola.

While I’m not recommending his diet program, his reading is a great one. There’s a method behind his madness and when you look at most of his habits, it’s no surprise he is the massive success he is today.

He has an unbelievable tool to help you set goals so you can achieve massive success as well. It’s known as the two list rule.

Warren Buffett’s ‘2 List Rule’

This “2 list rule” started when Mike Flint, Warren’s personal pilot of 10 years, went through a goal-setting process when talking with Warren. Like many of us, Mike had a lot of goals and looked to a mentor to help him achieve them.

Step One

Mike wrote down his top 25 goals for his career. By the way, I also recommend you doing the same while you’re reading this post. Start by writing out 25 goals you want to accomplish this month, this upcoming quarter or your entire career.

Step Two

Buffett asked Flint to check his list and find the five that were the most important to him. After much deliberation, he chose the top five from his list. If you’re following along, make sure you circle your top five here as well.

Step Three

Flint now had two lists after step two. The first list had his big five goals and the other list was his other 20, less important goals.

Flint said he committed to start with the top goals first. Buffett asked him about the second list and if he’d do those as well. Mike said they were important but he’d focus on the big five and do the other ones when he had time.

Buffett replied, “No. You’ve got it wrong, Mike. Everything you didn’t circle just became your Avoid-At-All-Cost list. No matter what, these things get no attention from you until you’ve succeeded with your top five.”

How to Use the 2 List Rule In Your Life

If you’re an overachiever or even someone who wants to set and achieve goals, I’m sure you’ve had this problem before. You have too many goals and not enough time or people to help you make it happen.

It’s a good problem to have considering most people don’t even set goals. But too much ambition might lead to not getting anything done which is the same as not setting goals.

This 2 list rule is great because it forces you to pick out your top big five goals. Often times, one of those big five goals will make such a massive impact in your business or life it will help take care or eliminate the rest of them.

I challenge you t to do this exercise and get really caller on your goals. Do the 25 goals for the next 30 days or even for the rest of the year.

Goal Setting Tips

Eliminate distraction, narrow your focus and make the top five come together by your given deadline

Get an accountability partner to help you ensure you have the necessary support

Add strong reasons or “why’s” to each goal

Review your goal regularly so it stays top of mind

Speak your goals to your trusted inner circle

Do at least one thing each day to move you to closer to one or several of your goals

I’m confident if you use Warren’s 2-List rule you will amaze yourself. Develop laser-like focus, stay disciplined, and start climbing the ladder to massive success.

We all have the same 24 hours each day. Yet, some people accomplish more in the average day than others can in a week.

Why is that?

One of the reasons… They wake up earlier. Studies have shown that the average CEO wakes up at least three hours before they actually go to work.

Waking up early and getting your day started is one of the most common habits of successful people.

If you want to be efficient and ultra-productive, you need to know how to wake up early without an alarm.

How to Wake Up Early Without an Alarm: The #1 Habit of Success

Part I: How to Stop Depending on Your Alarm

Before you can just hop out of bed without setting an alarm, you need to phase it out slowly. Don’t cold turkey your alarm and risk not getting up or missing work.

Start by trying these methods to wean yourself off the alarm clock:

Practice on Weekends

Instead of trying on a workday, try to get up when you normally would during the week.

Use An Old School Alarm

If you use your phone as an alarm, most likely you look at it right before you go to bed. Maybe even scrolling through social media before you go to sleep. This is setting you up for failure as the blue light from the screen delays the release of your body’s melatonin which makes it harder to fall asleep.

Quit the Snooze Button

The snooze button kills more dreams than anything else. Quit snoozing through life and take control of your mornings. The snooze button puts you back into a new sleep pattern and often times makes you more tired than before pressing it.

Part II: How to Wake Up Early Without an Alarm

Now that you have started to wake up early without an alarm, you can keep getting better with these habits.

Create the Perfect Sleeping Environment

You are a product of your environment and that includes your sleeping environment. Create an optimal sleeping environment by making sure it’s dark and slightly cold. Also, save your bedroom for sleeping, not reading, watching TV or working on your laptop.

Change Your Habits

The quality of your sleep and the ability to wake up without an alarm depends on how well you treat your body throughout the day. Make sure you are exercising regularly and not eating too late. When you eat late it might be hard to fall asleep which will keep you up later and sleep in later.

Also, avoid caffeine in the late afternoon and evening as the stimulant can also make it hard to get to sleep.

Practice Meditation

Meditation has so many benefits including the ability to help you sleep better. Try night meditation apps like Primed Mind or Headspace to get started.

Go to Bed at the Same Time

The last key to waking up without an alarm is keeping your routine consistent, yes even on the weekends if possible. Your body clock doesn’t take days off, forcing it to do so will throw your entire routine out. Try to wake up and go to sleep at the same time every day and you will notice a huge difference.

Get Started Tomorrow

As Craig Ballanytne said in the best seller, The Perfect Day Formula, “Habits are the secret to getting ahead in life and achieving your big goals and dreams.” Change your habits and you can change your life.

If you want to become the ultimate version of yourself you have to learn how to conquer your mornings so you can conquer your days. When you first learn how to wake up without an alarm, remember to start slow and build your way to waking up on your own.

Quit sleeping through your dreams and start creating the life you were born to live. As the legendary speaker, Eric Thomas said, “Make the rest of your life the best of your life.”
