How to Build a Meaningful And Successful Career

Finding meaningful work is quite challenging and more often than not, it is a lifelong quest. But just like anything in life, you can accomplish whatever it is that you set your mind to with the right motivation. Here are ways to build a meaningful and successful career:

1. Find a career that aligns with your values.

Your values are your foundation in making decisions including your career choice. Knowing your values is perhaps easy. The harder part is trying to identify if an employer or company honors the same values. Getting a feel for your employer’s values will help you decide if you’re in the right place.

2. Live out your passions.

Your passions, or purpose are often buried by judgments and principles that tell you what you love is not worth pursuing or that it’s not capable of supporting your family while doing something you love. But why is it that a lot of people are happily living out their passions? If they can do it, why can’t you? If you can’t leave your current job for now, why not start with little steps. Stop putting your passions on the back burner and start working toward a life you deserve.

3. Play to your strengths.

It’s important to consider and prioritize your strengths when venturing into a career. It is a lot easier to play to your strengths than to make up for weaknesses. Work on your weaknesses and work with your strengths.

4. Achieve mastery.

Mastery is a set of skills or competencies that you want to improve on. For instance, if you’re a writer, you can master in creating sales copies for advertisements. Again, your passion, values, and strengths should be your motivation. Be good at something you enjoy. Improving and leveling up your skills can add a great deal of fulfillment.

5. Freedom to have what matters to you.

This is about the flexibility you want to achieve. Some people may prefer a higher paycheck that allows them to take frequent vacations. Some may prefer the freedom to work whenever and wherever they want. Your career should help you fulfill what matters to you. Your motivation to do great is often based on the things that matter most to you.

6. Know how much you need to make.

What kind of lifestyle do you have? Take a look at your finances and do a budgeting. Depending on how much money you have to make to support your lifestyle, decide which way you should go. It might be a job that you’re passionate about and aligns with your values, but if it can’t pay your bills, you can’t afford to settle for it.

7. Remain flexible.

Playing to your strengths and living out your passions doesn’t mean being inflexible. You probably have a number of different skills that you can use to your advantage. Try to experiment and find out what best works for you.

Once you’ve found a career that combines your passions, values, strengths, skillsets, and pays your bills, congratulations! You have found a meaningful and successful career. However, for most of us, we just have to go from one job to another before getting there. This is quite an exciting, lifelong quest to accomplish. Take it easy; you’ll get there.
