4 Lessons Learnt From Dr Wayne Dyer On How To Grow Your Spiritual Power
Dr Wayne Dyer was a well known an internationally renowned author and speaker in the fields of self-development and spiritual growth. He was the author of over 41 books, including 21 New York Times bestsellers and created many audio and video programs. Below are a few of his simple tips on how to develop your spirituality every day.
1. Quiet The Mind
Getting quiet does not simply mean to stop talking. To get quiet means turning off the television or radio, or stepping away from the noise that can be every day life. It is a practice of learning to be comfortable sitting in silence or being alone with your thoughts in mediation. Learning to meditate can be fun and quite simple, but it requires focus and commitment. You can start by simply turning your attention inwards and focusing on your breath as it travels slowly in and out of your lungs. If you find it hard to meditate there are several great meditation audios available online for little to no cost.
2. Review Your Circle
Like attracts like. You become whom you spend most of your time with. Make sure the people in your surroundings are giving you positive energy. If they aren’t do your best to distance yourself from them compassionately. We are all on our own journey, and often we don’t know what we don’t know. It’s also important to ensure you spend time out in nature, connecting with the earth beneath your feet. If you live in a city and find it hard, try bringing nature to you by investing in some indoor plants, and maybe a water feature. Nothing reminds us more of the truth of who we are than being with nature.
3. Practice Yoga
The benefits of practising Yoga for your physical and mental health are many. Connecting with your body is a great way to bring yourself into the present moment, and in the present moment is where your spirit rests. When you take time to connect with your body in a peaceful and nourishing way, you will feel calmer and more centred in your day-to-day life.
4. Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness is defined as “the practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.”
It’s not as hard as it sounds. There are many ways to practice mindfulness, you can even do it while you eat. To eat mindfully simply place your food in front of you, take slow, measured, bites and focus on chewing. Continue to breathe and ‘be’ with your food while holding yourself in a state of gratitude for the meal you are enjoying. Your food will even taste better!
Using these simple tips from the late, great Dr Dyer, we can see that becoming more spiritual in our day to day lives does not need to be hard, and that with a little practice and persistence we can all feel a little calmer, happier and more connected.
